Channels in groups
I am not exactly sure how a group engages with a channel? As a person I can engage with a channel but it does not show here and I cannot "Add New" and create my own channel, so not sure the point?

In order to create a "Channel" you need to type hashtag plus the word, like:
Then, if you want to engage with a Channel, you can go to the Channel Details of your preference, you can use the Global Search or go to Channels, then you can click "Follow" in the Channel Card or in Channel Details.
